DoubleTree Amsterdam Centraal Station Review [2023]
The DoubleTree Amsterdam Centraal Station is located within walking distance of Amsterdam’s Centraal Station and the historic canals of Amsterdam. The location can’t be beat if you’re visiting Amsterdam for a few days and want easy access to everything the city has to offer, and an easy way to/from Schiphol airport thanks to the proximity to Centraal Station. Overall, we had a solid time at the DoubleTree in Amsterdam but there were a few quirks (namely construction that will likely soon be finished).
Booking The Room
I always book Hilton hotels direct with Hilton. This is because I have Diamond status through my Hilton Honors American Express Aspire Card.
We didn’t pay cash for this stay, though. We redeemed 60,000 points per night at this property, for a Standard Room Reward. We stayed three nights (and were upgraded to a suite overlooking the canals a few days before check-in!).
While not the absolute best use of Hilton Points (we didn’t take advantage of Hilton’s fifth night free when points are used), this was part of a larger vacation in Europe, and three nights were perfect for our trip.
Checking In at DoubleTree Amsterdam Centraal Station
A few days before check-in, the hotel concierge emailed us to say they were looking forward to welcoming us to Amsterdam, included a few local recommendations, and offered assistance prior to our arrival. I replied back thanking them for the email, and kindly mentioned we’d appreciate an upgrade if anything was available. We were in luck! We received an email a few hours later confirming they were able to move us to a suite, and we immediately noticed the upgraded room in our Hilton app. Score!
I always check in as soon as possible, especially when upgraded in advance, with the goal of selecting the best view possible. There were quite a few options available, and we scored a suite overlooking the canals!
We weren’t able to get a digital key at check-in, though, which means we had to stop at the front desk to grab our keys to get into our room. They had to confirm information about our time in The Netherlands and review our passports.
Our Room at the DoubleTree Amsterdam Centraal Station
We were impressed with the view as soon as we walked into the room – seriously – check it out!
There really wasn’t much to complain about the suite itself, but the room layout (specifically the living area) felt off and the carpet should be replaced at some point.
It seems like the hotel was undergoing renovations during our stay as well. It was noisy during the day. Fortunately, the construction crew was only working during reasonable hours. It didn’t really bother us, outside of not being able to take an afternoon nap one day.
I thought it was interesting that they made the sofa into a bed for our arrival. We didn’t request this. 🤷
Our suite had a small table next to the window. We sat there in the morning to enjoy coffee and the canal views.
The entire suite had amazing views of the canal, including the bedroom. The bed wasn’t the most comfortable but it was fine for our stay.
An iron, safe, workout mat, along with robes and slippers were provided. A nice touch!
Dining at the DoubleTree Amsterdam Centraal Station
There are six different options for dining at the DoubleTree Amsterdam Centraal Station:
- City Cafe (breakfast buffet)
- Eastwood Coffee (previously a Starbucks)
- Eastwood Grill
- Executive Lounge
- Lobby Bar (open 24 hours)
- LuminAir rooftop bar
Unfortunately, we didn’t spend too much time at the hotel restaurants (my bad!).
We did use the Executive Lounge quite a bit, though – mainly to grab water and snacks to bring up to our room. Beer and wine were also available. It was usually busy in the lounge but the staff did a great job of keeping it clean and stocked.
LuminAir, the rooftop bar, was undergoing renovations during our stay so we weren’t able to check it out. I imagine the views of Amsterdam are incredible.
Closing Thoughts
Overall, the DoubleTree Amsterdam Centraal Station is a great hotel and I’m planning on returning next time I’m in Amsterdam. You cannot beat the location, especially for a points hotel – it is right next to the Centraal Station and an easy walk to the shops of the main canal area. You’ll have a decent shot scoring an upgrade if you’re a Diamond member. The views from our suite were incredible! I appreciated the Executive Lounge and will take advantage of the dining options when I’m there next… the breakfast buffet looked great!
