Cost of Global Entry, NEXUS increasing Oct 1, 2024
The cost of Global Entry, NEXUS, and SENTRI will be increasing for the first time in 15 years and the fees between the three programs will be harmonized. This will take effect on October 1st, 2024, as announced by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) today.
The application fee for each program will now cost $120, which represents a significant price hike in some cases. Currently, the application fee for Global Entry is $100, while NEXUS costs $50 and SENTRI costs $122.25.
While the fees are increasing for most applications, there is a silver lining in the pricing update: applications under the age of 18 will be exempt from the application fee when a parent or legal guardian is already a member of, or concurrently applying for NEXUS, SENTRI, or Global Entry.
The updated fees will be collected in full when each application is submitted.
What is Global Entry / NEXUS / SENTRI?
The programs offer similar benefits, but differ based on how you’re entering the United States:
- Global Entry is a U.S. Customs and Border Protection program that allows expedited clearance for pre-approved, low-risk travelers upon arrival in the United States.
- NEXUS is a joint United States and Canada program designed to expedite border crossings for pre-approved, low-risk travelers between the two countries.
- SENTRI is a U.S. Customs and Border Protection program that provides expedited travel to pre-approved, low-risk travelers when entering the United States from Mexico by land.
Closing Thoughts
For the first time in 15 years, the CBP is increasing the cost to apply for Global Entry — from $100 to $120, which is a 20% price hike. Price increases are always a bummer, but we’re seeing them across the board as of late. It is welcomed news travelers under the age of 18 will be able to apply for free, though. While most readers likely have a premium credit card that reimburses fees for these types of programs, it is unclear if the credit card companies are going to update their credits. Stay tuned!
