Canopy by Hilton Columbus Downtown Review [2023]
The Canopy by Hilton Columbus Downtown is a newer Hilton hotel located across the street from the Greater Columbus Convention Center in the Short North area of Columbus, Ohio. Canopy is a new Hilton brand (launched in 2018 in the US) that has a unique, local vibe for each hotel. It’s an awesome hotel – I’ve stayed there twice now – but it has a few quirks, which I’ll mention in this review.
Booking The Room
I always book Hilton hotels direct with Hilton. This is because I have Diamond status with Hilton through my Hilton Honors American Express Aspire Card. I didn’t pay cash for this stay, though. We actually redeemed an expiring free night certificate (from the Aspire card) to spend the night here. That required a quick call to the Hilton Diamond line to book. Super easy, though! The reservation showed up in our Hilton app shortly after ending our call. Usually a room at this hotel goes for about $200 per night.
Checking In at Canopy by Hilton Columbus
The Canopy Hilton in Columbus lets you check in digitally via the Hilton App, and use your phone to unlock your room. We usually stop by the front desk to check in and inquire about an upgrade if we weren’t assigned a suite, but there was a line of other people waiting so we just decided to head up to our room… especially since we really like this property overall!
Our room was on the 11th floor, which is the highest floor for guest rooms at the hotel. There is a gym, restaurant, and bar on the 12th floor.
King Room at the Canopy Hilton in Columbus
I love the aesthetic of the Canopy brand overall! While we didn’t get a suite, our room felt spacious and had a great bathroom (the shower’s water pressure was amazing!).
One thing that you may notice in other reviews online is that the hotel doesn’t let you set the room below 68 degrees. I’m not sure if some of the rooms don’t actually cool as well as others, but it wasn’t a problem for us on this visit… however, during our stay a year ago, it was pretty hot out in Columbus, and it was a slight annoyance during that visit. It seems like a YMMV situation.
I love the vibe of the rooms at Canopy Hilton in Columbus! The TVs are also personalized.
I loved the modern aesthetic of the shower, and the water pressure was great, too!
Dining at Canopy by Hilton Columbus
There are two restaurants at the Canopy Hilton in Columbus. Central Market House is open for breakfast downstairs and Goodale Station on the rooftop is open weekdays in the evenings and on Sunday for brunch. Both restaurants are great, and Goodale Station has amazing views of the Columbus skyline and tasty cocktails.
Hilton Gold and Diamond members get a $15 per day dining credit (for up to 2 guests – so up to $30 per day) that can be used for either restaurant. We opted to use ours for breakfast at Central Market House.
Goodale Station has a great cocktail menu! I ordered the Spicy Margarita.
I also enjoyed breakfast Central Market House. The service and food were great. I opted to try the French Toast on this visit, and it was perfect. Bacon was included as a side!
Our Take on Canopy by Hilton Columbus
There are a number of reasons why The Canopy by Hilton Columbus is one of my favorite Hilton hotels… First, I love the look and feel of the hotel. It was thoughtfully designed, functional, and comfortable. It is also in a great location in the Short North area of Columbus. It is perfect if you need to be at the convention center but want something more intimate than the Hyatt Regency (which is a large, convention-style hotel). While the Canopy has a great bar and restaurant on the rooftop, there is a ton of other nightlife just a short walk away. Overall, I highly recommend considering this hotel if you’re going to be in Columbus, but keep an eye on the weather, the rooms may get a bit warm on a hot summer day.
