citizenM Washington DC NoMa Room Review [2024]
citizenM Washington DC NoMa is a brand new hotel in the NoMa Neighborhood. It opened in 2022 and is citizenM’s second hotel in Washington, D.C. The hotel is 10 stories, has 296 rooms, and is in a very walkable part of town with tons of restaurants nearby.
While I usually stay at points hotels when I’m in town (like the Navy Yard Thompson Hyatt), I wanted to take advantage of the new Delta Stays Amex Credit, which offers up to $250 off prepaid hotel stays booked through Delta Stays. We had to be in DC for a weekend in early March 2023, so this was a perfect opportunity to give it a try!
Booking My Stay at citizenM Washington DC NoMa
I usually always recommend booking hotel stays directly with your hotel, but this time, I strayed away from my own advice to test out Delta Stays, a platform that allows Delta SkyMiles members to earn 2 miles per $1 spent on hotel and vacation rentals. While that usually wouldn’t sway my decision, American Express now offers lucrative statement credits for select Delta credit card holders when they pay using their card.
The total for my stay came to $293.70 for two nights. I booked a 1 King Bed room and Delta Stays was offering 15% off the rate (slightly higher than the above screenshot).
I paid with my Delta SkyMiles® Reserve American Express Card and got a $200 statement credit a few days after the charge was posted.
citizenM Washington DC NoMa Location & Parking
citizenM Washington DC NoMa is located in the up-and-coming NoMa neighborhood of northeast D.C., close to Union Market. NoMa-Gallaudet is the closest metro stop, a short walk away (3 mins). There are tons of restaurants nearby, especially if you head over to Union Market.
It’s important to know that parking is not available at CitizenM Washington DC NoMa. The hotel recommends using SpotHero for nearby parking. I didn’t need parking during my stay, so I can’t offer advice, but if I remember correctly, there was plenty of street parking available.
citizenM Washington DC NoMa Lobby & Check-In
I hadn’t stayed at a citizenM hotel before, so I wasn’t quite sure what to expect before we walked in…
To my pleasant surprise, I fell in love with the hotel’s vibe as soon as I entered! It feels very European—a modern, affordable luxury, in a sense. Art and plants fill the lobby, with unique decor and furniture throughout the first level.
While it feels semi-luxurious, the hotel only offers self-check-in, which was one of the first signs that it isn’t a 5-star hotel (even though it is gorgeous!). I used the kiosk to check in and was able to quickly locate my reservation and generate room keys after scanning my government-issued ID.
King Room at citizenM Washington DC NoMa
Rooms at citizenM are small. They are a step above a hostel. Thankfully, I researched citizenM quite a bit before my arrival, so I knew not to get my hopes up for a spacious room. While my room was indeed small, I wasn’t disappointed at all. They utilized the space well!
Storage is immediately to the left as you walk in, with the bathroom and sink straight ahead.
At the end of your room is your bed. I loved the huge window and mounted TV. It felt cozy, in a good way! An iPad beside the bed lets you control your lighting and room temperature.
CitizenM is a great choice for solo travelers. My partner was with me, and it was tight, but we made it work for our short weekend trip. I’d definitely stay there again if I was by myself.
Breakfast at citizenM Washington DC NoMa
citizenM Washington DC NoMa has a welcoming bar on the first floor that’s open 24/7. It has a full bar, serves food throughout the day, and expands for a breakfast buffet open from 6AM to 11AM daily.
I made it down for breakfast on Saturday morning. While the hotel says breakfast buffet is open until 11AM, options were slim at 10AM when I arrived. I recommend taking a peek at what’s available before paying the $19.99 charge.
I managed to make a small plate of eggs, bacon, and potatoes, with a pastry, fruit, and juice on the side. To be honest, it wasn’t great, but I’d try it again if I were there earlier.
Brewed coffee and fresh juice are available in the buffet, and espresso drinks like lattes are available at the bar (extra charge).
Gym at citizenM Washington DC NoMa
While the hotel doesn’t have many amenities, there is a small gym in the basement. It has two treadmills, a Peloton bike, and free weights.
Closing Thoughts
Overall, I had a great stay at citizenM Washington DC NoMa! While I usually stay at points hotels, I’m glad I was able to try something new thanks to the new Delta Stays credit that is included with select American Express cards. I loved the hotel’s aesthetic and my room was quite functional for being so small. I wanted to like the hotel’s breakfast buffet but was disappointed. It may have been my fault for going late, but I expected it to offer more for $20. Regardless, citizenM Washington DC NoMa is a solid choice for a short stay in the city, and I’ll consider staying there again in the future.
