Hyatt House Columbus OSU Review + Photos [2023]
Hyatt House Columbus OSU / Short–North is a half mile away from Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. It is just under three miles from downtown Columbus, and about 9 miles from the airport. The hotel offers free breakfast, a full bar, and an impressive fitness center on the banks of the Olentangy River. I stayed here for one night late December 2023!
Booking My Stay at Hyatt House Columbus OSU
My trip to Columbus was last-minute so I booked on Hyatt’s app. The room was going for about $200 or 8,000 points per night. I was tempted to pay cash since I have the Chase World of Hyatt credit card but opted to use points to save money. Currently, you can book Hyatt House Columbus OSU for as little as 6,500 points per night during off-peak dates.
If you choose to pay cash for your stay, I recommend checking out the Suite options during booking. The hotel’s suites are surprisingly affordable, and you may be able to score a Studio Suite for less than a standard room!
Here’s a screenshot of pricing – as you can see, suites are really not much more than a standard room. Obviously this may not always be the case but I recommend checking.
Hyatt House Columbus OSU Location & Parking
Hyatt House Columbus OSU / Short–North is near The Ohio State University and the trendy Short-North area of Columbus… but is not directly located directly in either location. There is not much immediately around the hotel. The John Glenn Columbus International Airport is 8.8 miles away and the Greater Columbus Convention Center downtown is 2 miles away.
While we usually stay downtown, one of the main reasons we booked Hyatt House Columbus OSU is because they offer free parking. The property has a large, well-lit parking lot that felt safe.
Overall, I liked the location of this Hyatt House property. It is central to most major areas of Columbus, offers free parking, and the location feels safe.
Hyatt House Columbus OSU Lobby & Check-In
Hyatt House Columbus OSU is a brand new hotel, and you feel that as soon as you walk into the lobby.
I wasn’t able to fully check in on the Hyatt app before arrival (probably because I made a last-minute reservation) so we had to stop at the front desk to check in. The lady working at the front desk was so friendly and welcoming! She assigned us a room on the 5th floor overlooking the Olentangy River.
The hotel’s bar, breakfast area, pantry, gym, and pool are all located on the first floor near the front desk. This is typical of most Hyatt House properties.
King Room at Hyatt House Columbus OSU
I booked a standard King Room for my stay, and I was impressed as soon as I walked in! As I mentioned earlier, the hotel is new, and that was immediately felt in the room as well. The room was clean and the bathroom was modern and bright. We even had a great view of the river behind the hotel (sadly it was raining!).

Dining at Hyatt House Columbus OSU
I didn’t have time to try the dining options at Hyatt House Columbus OSU. I hope to stay here again and will update the review when that happens. The breakfast bar looked like a standard mid-tier hotel’s complimentary breakfast with juice, eggs, toast, cereals, and sausage links. The hotel has a full bar that serves a limited food menu, which includes a burger, Caesar salad, and turkey sandwich.
Amenities at Hyatt House Columbus OSU
Hyatt House Columbus OSU shines when it comes to amenities. The hotel has an amazing gym (seriously – one of the best I’ve seen at a hotel), an indoor pool, and on-site laundry for guests.

Final Thoughts
I enjoyed my stay at Hyatt House Columbus OSU / Short–North and will consider it again next time I’m in Columbus. I love that it is a new property, offers free parking, is a quick drive to most parts of Columbus. I especially loved the hotel’s gym! While I booked with points for this stay, it frequently has great cash rates (especially for suites) so be sure to check both options if you’re considering this hotel.
