Review: Lindner Hotel Berlin Ku’damm
After an incredible stay at the Lindner Hotel in Cologne, I was eager to head to Berlin and check into another Lindner hotel—this time, Lindner Hotel Berlin Ku’damm.
Lindner Hotel Berlin Ku’damm is a 4-star hotel in Kurfürstendamm, one of Berlin’s most famous avenues. It is one of only a handful of Hyatt hotels in Berlin.
The hotel is under the JdV Hotels flag. JdV by Hyatt is a collection of independent hotels, so your experience will vary from property to property. JdV stands for joie de vivre, which means to enjoy life in French.
Since this hotel is part of World of Hyatt, I decided to save cash and pay for my stay with points earned from my Chase Sapphire Preferred card. I transferred 49,500 points from Chase to Hyatt to book nine nights here—yes, just 5,500 points per night—incredible value! This hotel was a Category 1 property when I booked it but is now a Category 2, which means it costs 8,000 points per night on average. Still…not bad!
How does Lindner Hotel Berlin Ku’damm compare to my stay at Lindner Hotel Cologne City Plaza? Let’s dive into my review!
Booking My Stay
I booked my stay directly at Hyatt.com. Cash rates can be upwards of €200 per night in the summer, but Lindner Hotel Berlin Ku’damm is a Category 2 hotel with the World of Hyatt program, which means you can redeem as few as 6,500 points for one night!
I got incredible value for my stay — nearly 4 cents per point!! That is amazing, especially considering Hilton and Marriot points are worth about half a cent.
Pro Tip: don’t book a 1 Twin Bed if other room types are available! I had to book a separate reservation for one night because I got into town early, and the 1 Twin bedrooms are small!
Location & Parking
Lindner Hotel Berlin Ku’damm is located on Kurfürstendamm, one of Berlin’s most famous avenues. The area is home to high-end shopping, hotels, cafes, and restaurants.
I took the train from Cologne, so I arrived at Berlin Central Station. From there I decided to take the S-Bahn train to the hotel. The S3, S5, and S7 lines all get you to the hotel within 15 minutes—get off at the Berlin Zoologischer Garten Bahnhof stop.
Lindner Hotel Berlin Ku’damm doesn’t have on-site parking, but there is an underground parking garage nearby on Kantstraße Street, which costs € 15 per 24 hours.
Lobby & Check In
After a short walk from the train stop, I found the hotel down an alley from the Kurfürstendamm, the main road. It is easy to miss without looking at your GPS. The hotel’s front desk is immediately to the left as you enter (and there isn’t much of a lobby!).
Queen Room
After my first night in a small twin-bed room, I moved to a queen room for the rest of my reservation. I was happy to see that it was almost 10 square meters larger! If you have the choice between a twin and a queen room, choose the latter. They are the same price per night with points.
My room had a unique yet functional layout. The pillar in the center of the room was a closet on one-side and part of the bathroom on the other.
There were light switches and power outlets on each side of the bed….
My room also had a desk (something I needed during my stay in Cologne, too)!
The small closet also housed the fridge and security vault.
The bathroom was perfect for me, and I liked that the shower head was moveable.
Dining
Lindner Hotel Berlin Ku’damm only has one restaurant, which is only open for breakfast. I stopped by one morning to check it out, but it was packed, so I decided to eat elsewhere. I snapped a few photos before leaving, though.
The hotel also offers 24/7 room service:
There are dozens of restaurants, bars, and cafes within walking distance of the hotel. I ventured out for every meal to explore the city (and attempted to save money). There is a Starbucks across the street and a Greek bakery and salad shop in the alley from the hotel entrance. Both the salad shop and Greek bakery were reasonably priced.
If you want something tasty, I recommend walking to Zaddy’s by Kaplan on Tauentzienstraße to try a döner kebab. Every time I walked by, there was a line, but it was worth it!
Amenities
Unfortunately, Lindner Hotel Berlin Ku’damm doesn’t have many amenities. It is mostly a place to sleep while you’re visiting the city. This was disappointing, as I loved the amenities at the Lindner Hotel in Cologne.
They do have a partnership with Clever Fit, a local gym, however. It is a 5-minute walk from the hotel down Joachimsthaler Street. The two-story gym is clean and has all the equipment needed for a solid workout. If you’re interested in checking it out, you can get a wristband for the gym by stopping by the hotel’s front desk.
Closing Thoughts
Lindner Hotel Berlin Ku’damm is a fine place to crash while you’re visiting Berlin, but keep your expectations low. The value is tough to beat given its location, but the hotel lacks amenities which is disappointing. If you want to explore the city, this hotel is an excellent use of World of Hyatt points, given that it is a Category 2 hotel. The hotel’s location is lively and well-connected to the rest of the city. The hotel was fine but next time I visit Berlin, I’ll likely choose a luxury hotel with amenities like the Waldorf Astoria or Grand Hyatt.
